Event Planning

The 2012 Olympics provides a great opportunity for bringing communities together by way of community and cultural events. To that end Epping Forest District Council is totally committed to supporting communities who wish to hold any kind of public event or gathering during 2012.

However, Epping Forest District Council also has a duty to ensure that large public events are safe and that contingency plans are in place should something go wrong. The Olympics will place a significant strain on resources and, combined with the expected influx of visitors to the district, this means that those planning large events and gatherings should take additional care.

Epping Forest District Council has established a Safety Advisory Group to provide advice and guidance to anyone planning an event in the District. The group is made up of representatives from each of the Emergency Services, Council Officers and any relevant special advisors.

The Safety Advisory Group is primarily an advisory body with the sole purpose of ensuring that public events are safe. If you are considering running some form of event or gathering during 2012 then please contact Kim Tuckey on 01992 564034 or by emailing ktuckey@eppingforestdc.gov.uk.

Campsites and caravan parks

The District can expect a large number of additional visitors throughout 2012 and especially during the Games period. Many of these visitors will be looking for cheap accommodation and campsites may be an attractive option. Entrepreneurial landowners may consider setting up a temporary campsite and/or caravan park to provide such a service.

Clearly there may be planning considerations and Epping Forest District Council will provide advice and guidance as necessary. From a contingency planning perspective, Epping Forest District Council has a legal duty to make plans for emergencies and so it would be very helpful to know about any planned campsites or caravan parks. If you are planning such a facility or know someone who is, please contact the Emergency Planning Officer on 01992 564176 or email pcharman@eppingforestdc.gov.uk.

Planning information for businesses

The London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games (LOCOG) has produced a planning information booklet for businesses called 'Preparing your business for the Games.' It provides advice and guidance on things to do before, during and after Games time, so that you can keep your business running during 2012 and make the most of the opportunities next summer.
