Get Out To Vote On Thursday

Published on 1 June 2009

Polling Stations open for the Essex County Council and European Parliamentary Elections at 7am on Thursday. Unless you previously arranged to vote by post, you will have 15 hours to cast your vote. Polling Stations close at 10pm exactly. Don’t be too late! After 10pm you will have missed your chance.

There will also be one District Council and one Parish Council By-election.

Once the ballot boxes are sealed at 10pm they will be placed under lock and key until the count begins on Friday morning. All the votes will be verified – the process of making sure the number of ballot papers in each box matches the number of votes cast. The actual count of votes for the County Council Elections then follows.

The count for the European Elections will take place on Sunday when all the votes cast across Europe will be counted at the same time.

If you are registered, you should have received your polling card. It tells you where to find your polling station. You must go to the polling station listed on your card. You cannot vote elsewhere.

All the votes will be counted at Theydon Bois Village Hall. There is not enough room to open the count venue to the general public but candidates, their agents and the media are allowed in to watch and make sure everything is done properly.

Local Elections are run by Epping Forest District Council. Results of the Essex County Council Elections and local by-elections are expected during Friday afternoon and will be published on the Epping Forest District Council website as soon as possible after each announcement.

Votes counted on Sunday for the European Elections will be sent to the regional count centre in Huntingdon to be amalgamated with all the other votes cast across the Eastern Region. The Results of the European Election will be announced from Huntingdon later.
