We began the development of our impact assessment process in 2004, having first assessed which services were relevant to the duty to promote race equality. At this time assessments were only required in respect of our duty under the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000. However, our approach was to carry out assessments based on issues relating to gender and disability equality as well as race, and this approach has continued since then.
The Council is currently re-assessing all of the services originally assessed in 2004, using a revised impact assessment toolkit and also addressing the additional protected characteristics introduced by the Equality Act 2010. The first results of these new impact assessments are published below.
