Our Performance

Performance management helps the Council to improve, by ensuring that it takes action in response to actual performance to make outcomes for service users better than they would otherwise be. The management of our employee and system performance helps the Council to deliver effective strategic and operational goals.

Online guide that pieces together the work that we do

The Council publishes a range of documents setting out its corporate plans and priorities over the short and medium-term. Using our innovative and interactive Corporate Strategy Guide, you can now explore how each of our aims, objectives and indicators relate to each other. You can also see which directorates and portfolios of the Council link to each other as well as which of our aims, objectives and indicators their work contributes towards.

Please click on the image below to use the Corporate Strategy Guide.

The guide also contains links to the latest performance reports and definitions for the key

performance indicators that we use to assess how we are performing throughout the year, as

well as links to the current business plans for each of our directorates and service areas. The

guide is designed to inform residents of the district, as well as employers, employees, students

and visitors, how we are working across all areas of the Council to ensure the district is 'a great

place to live, work, study and do business'. If you have any comments on the guide, please

contact the Performance Improvement Unit.

Key Objectives

Each year the Council sets a range of key objectives for the forthcoming twelve months, which support the delivery of Medium-Term Aims of the Corporate Plan for 2011 to 2015. Details of current (1 April to 30 September 2011) progress against the key objectives for 2011/12, can be downloaded below:

Key Objectives 2011/12 - Progress Report (September 2011)

The key objectives for 2012/13 were adopted in January 2012, and can be downloaded here. Progress against the achievement of the objectives will be reviewed every six months, and progress reports will be published here in due course.

Key Performance Indicators

The Council adopts a range of Key Performance Indicators (KPI) each year that are particularly relevant to it’s services and key objectives. The annual identification of KPIs provides an opportunity for the Council to focus specific attention on how areas for improvement will be addressed, opportunities exploited and better outcomes delivered. The KPIs are important as a means of monitoring local performance and responsiveness in meeting local objectives. Details of the KPIs for 2011/12 can be downloaded below.

Key Performance Indicators 2011/12

Performance against the KPIs is reviewed four times a year by the Finance and Performance Management Scrutiny Panel, and all performance data is subject to internal data quality checks. Current performance against the KPIs can be viewed using the quarterly reports published within the Council's Corporate Strategy Guide.

Performance Report

The Council also publishes an annual Performance Report, setting out its performance against a range of performance indicators for previous years. For more information, or to download copies of individual Performance Reports, please click here.
