Filming in the District

Epping Forest District is now well established as a film-friendly district for locations for shooting films, programmes, adverts and documentaries. It is close to London, yet far enough away to provide wide-open filmic spaces, and not forgetting the wonderful Epping Forest, the largest public open space in the London area, measuring 19km x 4km, two-thirds of which is wooded and the same proportion designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Epping boasts a vast range of architecture and topography ranging from nature reserves and mansions to urban high streets and leafy suburbs. The area has a rich and varied history, from the Saxon settlements around Epping to the medieval glory of Waltham Abbey.

There are a number of particular areas of interest including Copped Hall, Greensted Church, Blake Hall, Waltham Abbey, Roding Valley Nature Reserve, Lee Valley Park and North Weald Airfield to name but a few.

There are of course parking restrictions in most high street areas, however these can be adjusted by the Council if need be. Many locations are easily accessible, however filming times and facilities opening times need to work together.

Health and safety issues also need to be considered and the Council will alert production companies to any regulations that may affect their request.
