Housing Strategy 2009-2012

The Council's Housing Strategy assesses the District’s current and future housing needs, and sets out the Council’s approach to meeting those needs. It takes account of national and local priorities and the links between other Council and non-Council strategies that both influence, and are influenced by, the Housing Strategy.

The Council fully recognises that it cannot deliver the Housing Strategy alone, and that working in partnership with other organisations and across traditional local authority boundaries are essential to its effective delivery. The Strategy identifies those key partners, and has been produced in collaboration with them.

The Strategy sets out the vision for housing in the District, the key housing objectives and the aims and objectives relating to individual issues. It also provides a Key Action Plan. The Key Action Plan is formally reviewed every 6 months, and is updated every year.

Every attempt has been made to ensure that the Housing Strategy is not a "technical document", and that it meets the needs of the widest possible audience, including tenants, leaseholders and private occupiers as well as residents associations, housing organisations, Council members and other interested parties. A Glossary has been included as an appendix to explain technical terms. A contact list has also been provided to enable readers to obtain further information on areas of interest.
