Applying for a council or housing association home

Epping Forest District Council lets around 500 council properties each year and ‘nominates’ people to housing associations. Vacant properties are advertised and let through the HomeOption choice based lettings scheme. If you want to express your interest in a vacant property (sometimes known as 'bidding') please go to the HomeOption area of the website.

To apply for housing you need to join our Housing Register.  The Register is for new applicants, and for existing council and housing association tenants who want to move. You need to complete a Housing Application Form. Please read our leaflet 'Moving home with the Council' before you apply. It gives details about who can and cannot join the Housing Register, and explains how we decide who has priority for any offer of housing. For more detailed information, you can download the Council's complete Housing Allocations Scheme.

You can download the Housing Application Form here, or we can send you a Housing Application Pack by post. Email your request to housingoptions@eppingforestdc.gov.uk
If you have any queries or need help completing the form, please contact the Housing Options Section on 01992 564107.

When you have completed the application form please post it to: Housing Options Section, Epping Forest District Council, Civic Offices, High Street, Epping, Essex CM16 4BZ. You must include the documents listed in the ‘Information’ section on page 2.

Please note: Demand for council and housing association accommodation is very high in this district. If you live outside the Epping Forest district you may be eligible to join our Housing Register, but it is unlikely we will ever be able to offer you a home unless are eligible for sheltered housing.

An application for housing can be made anywhere in this country. You can find the local council in any area on the DirectGov website.

Self Assessment Medical Form  You should complete this form if someone in your household has a health condition which is affected by their housing situation. The Council may take this condition into account when assessing or reviewing your housing application, but you should read the guidance included with the form. Download the Self Assessment Medical Form here.
